Professor Richard Winpenny, one of the three founding Directors of Sci-Tron Limited, has been award an Advanced Grant by the European Research Council for his project ‘Heterometallic Rings for Future Electronics’ (HERIFUEL).
The funding of almost 2.5 million Euros is to be spent over five years starting in September 2018.
The ERC Advanced Grants are among the most prestigious awards made to researchers working in Europe.
The project will provide much of the fundamental science needed to develop new ideas that will feed into Sci-Tron products in the future.
Richard commented: “The basic idea of HERIFUEL is to use supramolecular chemistry to address problems that have not previously been regarded as part of supramolecular chemistry. One of these problems is to develop better resists for lithography.”
“The very large and beautiful supramolecules we are making have unique capabilities in this area and we believe we can make a major difference to future fabrication of nanodevices.”
The funds will be used to support a team of post-doctoral researchers to cover synthetic activity and fundamental lithographic studies.
